Mark and I are always looking for ways to improve and grow Hazel Media. So after reaching out for feedback, it was pointed out that one area we could improve on is showing what it is that we do. Some folks expressed confusion about what service we were offering with all the images of bathrooms on our Facebook page. Are we a contractor? Are we selling fixtures? Do we design bathrooms? Are we realtors? In case those were questions you had running in your mind, the answer is “None of the Above.” For the past few months, we have been focusing in on the services we would like to offer and architectural/commercial photography is one we have put at the top.
For the past few months, we have been working with a wonderful bathroom remodeling company called Bath Fixer, Inc which is located in La Crosse WI. They were looking for a photographer to take photos of their completed bathroom renovations as they recognized that their expertise was in remodeling bathrooms, and not so much in high quality commercial photography. And that is perfectly okay! I’ll be the first to admit that if I had to design and remodel our bathroom, I’d be at a total loss! Except for picking out the bathtub. That’s why, if that day ever came, I’d be calling up my friends at Bath Fixer to do the job!
Now, back to the pictures. We have surfed the web, checking local business websites and real estate listings and noticed a pretty common theme. Very few use a professional commercial photographer. They range from “pretty awful” to “okay but definitely could improve.” Whether the images are out of focus, too dark, over exposed, crooked, unflattering angles, they just simply do not do a great job of showcasing a company’s product, service or home listing.
It seems that the standard to compare to these days is the iPhone. Well, we don’t have one at the moment so we borrowed an iPod Touch from one of my sister’s for our latest shoot for Bath Fixer. Below, you will see images that Mark took with the iPod. These fall in the “pretty awful” category that we so often see professionals using to show examples of their work.
Typical Small Business/Real Estate Photography
Notice how dark they are but how blown out the lights are? You can see Mark’s reflection in the shower glass. The angles aren’t that flattering and the list goes on.
Now. Take a peek at photos of the same bathroom but taken with professional gear and utilizing the technique of professional commercial photography.
Beautiful Commercial Photography
Ahhh. So much better! How do the images make you feel? Do they affect how you perceive Bath Fixer and their quality of work?
Our goal is to take local small businesses, and improve their perceived value to better reflect what their customers are saying about them! Do you want your business to have images showing what you are truly capable of creating? Do you want your home listings to show prospective buyers the true beauty of the property for sale? If you answered yes to either of these questions, please take a moment to send us a message and get the ball rolling to move your business ahead!
