Sweet Ridge Fitness {Business After Hours} Viroqua WI Fitness Photography

Last month, Sweet Ridge Fitness in Viroqua hosted January’s Business After Hours gathering. There was a great turn out considering the sub zero windchill that day! If you like a varied work-out with a smaller group of people, custom tailored to suit your physical needs and goals, and direct access to your personal trainer, then Sweet Ridge is definitely for you! They have morning and evening workout sessions nearly every day of the week and you will never be bored with a set routine. Paul has a great program going on here, so if you want to jumpstart your physical activity this year, this would be a great place to do just that! Check them out!

Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School {Business After Hours} Viroqua WI Business Event Photography

The first Wednesday of every month, the Viroqua Chamber of Commerce holds a Business After Hours (B.A.H.) meeting which is a time of networking at a local business. This as been such a great gathering that I (Amber… and occasionally Mark) have really enjoyed attending. Each month, a different business hosts and is given time to present what it is that they do, a little history of their business and any other information that they feel is helpful for other local business owners to know. Preceding and following the presentation, attendees are encouraged to socialize and get to know one another.

I have taken photos of past events but have held off on sharing to our page/blog directly as the photos are more event photography style and do not represent what our true commercial photography work looks like. But these events and businesses deserve to be shown, as it is not only great to learn about the businesses local to Viroqua, but the hosts deserve to have a record of their event as well.

The most recent business to host the Business After Hours meeting was Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School. Parents in Viroqua are so fortunate to have such wide ranging choices for their child’s education. Whether it be the traditional public school system, private Christian schools, or one of several charter and alternative learning centers, there is something to fit the desires of each parent for their child(ren). I’ll be honest, I didn’t know a whole lot about the Waldorf style of education, despite growing up in Viroqua and being around the students who integrated into the public high school their freshman year. What I did know, was that those students who joined the public school from Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School excelled at math, science, english and art.

Now that I have three sweet children of my own, I have taken a greater interest in the wide range of options for education. After listening to the presentation during the B.A.H. gathering and visiting a few of the classrooms, it is clear as to why those students did so well in those subjects! Check out the photos from this month’s B.A.H. I dare you to not wish you were a kid again and could go to school here!

Books! Books! Books! {Driftless Books and Music} Viroqua WI – Bookstore Photography

Have you ever wondered what thousands of used, and dare I say antique, books would look like all in one place? Mark recently photographed such a place. Driftless Books and Music is a very unique new and used book store located in Viroqua, WI. With modern and eclectic art strewn amongst old and new titles, it is a book lover’s paradise! Enjoy a cup of coffee, conversation with other book aficionados and on some occasions, music from local artists! Though our images do a great job of showing the uniqueness of this store, you really need to stop in and see the space for yourself. Bring the kiddos too! They have a great selection of books for kids and some great toys for them to be entertained while you peruse the shelves for treasures of your own. Have books you are no longer connected to? The great folks at Driftless Books and Music will offer you a fair price and possibly even trade you book for book (granted, there may be limitations for the antique and rare titles).

Before I leave you with the rest of the images, Eddy, who owns the book store, mentioned that they are hoping to rent the book store for small events and meetings. So if you are in the need of a unique space to host a small event or gathering, please give them a call! This space is truly unique and you should really check them out once they open up in the spring (it’s a little chilly in there right now, although the guys are hard at work fulfilling orders during this cold weather!). If you are in dire need of a new read, you can check out some of the books they have at the Driftless Trader located in the Fortney Hotel building in downtown Viroqua.DriftlessBooks_web- DriftlessBooks_web-9629 DriftlessBooks_web-9643 DriftlessBooks_web-9658 DriftlessBooks_web-9671 DriftlessBooks_web-9674 DriftlessBooks_web-9736 DriftlessBooks_web-9730 DriftlessBooks_web-9727 DriftlessBooks_web-9739 DriftlessBooks_web-9745 DriftlessBooks_web-9751 DriftlessBooks_web-9763 DriftlessBooks_web-9680 DriftlessBooks_web-9705 DriftlessBooks_web-9792 DriftlessBooks_web-9783

From Drab to Fab Photos – {Commercial Photography – La Crosse WI}

Mark and I are always looking for ways to improve and grow Hazel Media. So after reaching out for feedback, it was pointed out that one area we could improve on is showing what it is that we do. Some folks expressed confusion about what service we were offering with all the images of bathrooms on our Facebook page. Are we a contractor? Are we selling fixtures? Do we design bathrooms? Are we realtors? In case those were questions you had running in your mind, the answer is “None of the Above.” For the past few months, we have been focusing in on the services we would like to offer and architectural/commercial photography is one we have put at the top.

For the past few months, we have been working with a wonderful bathroom remodeling company called Bath Fixer, Inc which is located in La Crosse WI. They were looking for a photographer to take photos of their completed bathroom renovations as they recognized that their expertise was in remodeling bathrooms, and not so much in high quality commercial photography. And that is perfectly okay! I’ll be the first to admit that if I had to design and remodel our bathroom, I’d be at a total loss! Except for picking out the bathtub. That’s why, if that day ever came, I’d be calling up my friends at Bath Fixer to do the job!

Now, back to the pictures. We have surfed the web, checking local business websites and real estate listings and noticed a pretty common theme. Very few use a professional commercial photographer. They range from “pretty awful” to “okay but definitely could improve.” Whether the images are out of focus, too dark, over exposed, crooked, unflattering angles, they just simply do not do a great job of showcasing a company’s product, service or home listing.

It seems that the standard to compare to these days is the iPhone. Well, we don’t have one at the moment so we borrowed an iPod Touch from one of my sister’s for our latest shoot for Bath Fixer. Below, you will see images that Mark took with the iPod. These fall in the “pretty awful” category that we so often see professionals using to show examples of their work.

Typical Small Business/Real Estate Photography

Notice how dark they are but how blown out the lights are? You can see Mark’s reflection in the shower glass. The angles aren’t that flattering and the list goes on.

Now. Take a peek at photos of the same bathroom but taken with professional gear and utilizing the technique of professional commercial photography.

Beautiful Commercial Photography

Ahhh. So much better! How do the images make you feel? Do they affect how you perceive Bath Fixer and their quality of work?

Our goal is to take local small businesses, and improve their perceived value to better reflect what their customers are saying about them! Do you want your business to have images showing what you are truly capable of creating? Do you want your home listings to show prospective buyers the true beauty of the property for sale? If you answered yes to either of these questions, please take a moment to send us a message and get the ball rolling to move your business ahead!

(Follow our blog for more comparison shots and future articles about how we create the completed images. You may even notice a few posts of beautiful weddings and adorable families as Amber will be taking a few video sessions here and there.)

And for your viewing pleasure. Here are images of the completed renovation in a larger size.

Willa – 7 months – Wisconsin Family Videographer

Children are near and dear to my heart. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that I’m a mother of three adorable, energetic little munchkins. Preserving their innocence and their precious sounds and actions when they are young makes my heart sing. I love weddings and capturing the love between a new husband and wife as they start a new chapter. The only thing that tops weddings for me is the every day happenings of little kids. These moments are fleeting. Just thinking about my own little girls growing up, getting married and starting families of their own makes my heart ache, wishing I could hold on to them as tiny little people for a little longer.

So, one day a couple months back, I broke out the camera and had a mini photo/video session with our youngest (and big sisters popping in here and there). Yes, I probably should have tidied the room up a bit and brushed the big girls’ hair and did them up all nice and fancy, but that isn’t our every day around here. Our living room usually looks like a bomb exploded in it (because two usually do every day). My girls will either spend all day in their jammies or make two dozen outfit changes from wake up to bed time. A nicely brushed head of hair in the morning can look like they spent all day riding in a convertible with the top down by evening. It is not quiet here. Life is happening every day. And life can be messy!

These messy, crazy, and sometimes downright exhausting days go by so quickly. These are the days that we as parents will miss so deeply once they have passed. These are the days that need to be preserved. Be sure to preserve the insanely adorable ages of your children with a family heirloom film created by your’s truly! Send us a message for details on how to preserve these precious moments for your own family!

Without further delay, enjoy the sweetness of what age 7 months looked like for our little Willa.

Real Estate Photography {Viroqua, WI Real Estate Photographer}

This summer has been fabulous. Amazing weather, great activities with wonderful friends and keeping super busy with our three little princesses! Though the wedding video posts have slowed dramatically, Mark and I have been keeping busy working on building up the photography side of our business. Recently, Mark took some photos of a lovely home for sale located in Viroqua, WI right next to the middle/high schools. Mark has really taken a liking to real estate and product photography and we have found that though this type of photography is done for the purpose of helping the location/item sell, in the instance of homes, it also helps preserve memories. For the wonderful family selling this home, there are many memories associated with their children. To us, a house is more than just a house. It is a home where a newly married couple starts a new adventure. It is a home where children are born into and raised. Where when you look into a room, you can almost hear the laughter and see them playing. Not only do amazing images help your property get noticed quicker and likely sell faster, they also help preserve a bunch of memories of the time spent in that home!

Quality images are very important for your home listing. If your Realtor doesn’t provide professional photographs for your listing, insist that they hire a professional real estate photographer, then send them our way! With more than 90% of home buyers using the internet to search for their future home, you will want yours looking it’s best!
